PM Offers Scholarships for UPP Parliamentarians

1 December 2024 - 19:49

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced an initiative to offer scholarships to promote higher education among members of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

He emphasized the paramount significance of personal growth and professional development, asserting that aspiring leaders must pursue advanced learning to enrich their capabilities.

Browne clarified that his intention was not to diminish anyone’s efforts but to encourage those aiming for higher political offices to invest in their education and self-improvement.

In a gesture of goodwill, he stated that his office would be ready to provide scholarships for studies at the University of West Indies Five Islands Campus to any UPP parliamentarians in need of support.

The Prime Minister has expressed that this initiative aims to develop well-rounded individuals capable of engaging with complex issues. By expanding their knowledge and skills, the scholarships are intended to empower parliamentarians to deliver more informed and impactful presentations in parliamentary sessions.

During a recent appearance on the Browne and Browne show, PM Browne reiterated his invitation to UPP Political Leader Jamale Pringle to take advantage of a scholarship, extending this offer to other party leaders as well.

“I’ve personally reached out to the Leader of the Opposition about six and a half years ago, urging him to pursue a degree. I informed him that the university would soon be operational and encouraged him to continue his education there. Even now, if Pringle is interested in a scholarship, I would be more than willing to offer it to him, and I genuinely mean this,” PM Browne stated.

“While I’m not suggesting that having a degree is a prerequisite for governance, a well-trained mind can make wiser decisions by allowing for a more rational evaluation of multiple options instead of simply opting for the first one,” he added

PM Browne pointed out that the scholarship offer is not limited to Pringle; it is also open to any other member of the UPP.

  3. One does not need a degree to know that the excavation works being done at Pensioners is what can be termed ” Highway Robbery “; the government of Antigua and Barbuda being the victim. Ironically, it is said that the excavation equipment is owned by one packing more degrees than Dr. Fahrenheit and if the purpose of education is to make one dishonest, then save your soul.

  5. I am increasingly frustrated and exasperated by the prime minister’s persistent attempts to belittle and mock the opposition. It seems like every time he addresses the public, rather than presenting constructive ideas or engaging in meaningful debate, he resorts to sarcasm and derision. This approach not only undermines the democratic process but also distracts from the pressing issues at hand. It’s disheartening to witness a leader prioritize personal attacks over collaborative solutions.
