Prime Minister Gaston Browne has publicly criticized the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) for what he perceives as their inadequate representation of workers at the Royalton Resort.
Tensions escalated on Tuesday when dissatisfied workers protested their concerns regarding inadequate pay and unfavorable working conditions.
They stopped work for several hours, demanding that the management of the hotel address their concerns.
Several of these workers were clamoring for payments due to them and the removal of their HR manager, whom they claim cares nothing about their concerns.
PM Browne said that the workers have repeatedly raised their grievances with the union over an extended period, yet the union has failed to take effective action in their favor.
The staff also echoed these sentiments
Browne called out the ABWU Deputy General Secretary, Chester Hughes, for his approach to the agitated workers, suggesting that the situation lacked the sensitivity and seriousness it demanded.
The Prime Minister emphasized the urgency of addressing the identified inequities, warning that if these pressing issues remain unresolved, the likelihood of further protests could increase, drawing attention to the need for swift and meaningful action.
Your Day started off with 2 stories from Pointe Xpress
It continued with 2 stories from the Observer
Now you have just published two stories from ABS
Does this website write its own stories?
Does it really matter where the stories come from?? On radio stations the stories making news are often recorded from competing radio stations cbs gets news from NBC or CNN etc..so what is your problem? Why don’t you comment on the article which is a bunch of hogwash from Gaston Brown as usual
We seem to be shedding light on the wrong media house. but if we have to look further into it, you’d recognize the off in the timings. however let’s actually point fingers in the correct direction. which would probably bad to mention cause antigua.news may just delete my comment. however you’re here to just be a hater and as an antigua.news supporter i will surely not allow you to do this. cause just as how young people follow celebrity lives, i follow news medias. before coming here with all the negatviity, please do a research and check your time.
I follow every news site. Or at least i try to follow most of them and the first two stories published on antigua.news were 5:20 and 5:28 a.m. I know this because i was on my toilet shitting. The Pointe Expess paper was published at 5:59 a.m. perhaps your criticism should have been directed at Pointe? Or is this a deliberate effort to ridicule Antigua.news because you have an agenda? Secondly the first two stories were of parliament. Nobody owns it. I read the stories from both websites on ACB. antigua.news report had much more detail with figures and specifications. Also I saw both entities published a press release sent by LIAT. We can probably conclude that their reporters work for the government? But I cannot agree with you that they tief stories like antiguanewsroom. Because in most cases they publish first. Ta da
Gaston has been saying this about hotels for a long time. Now look at this. And yes the manner in which he spoke to these people were almost as if he was saying…what trouble you cause me now?
If it’s one time I can agree with Mr. Browne it will be this time. ABWU must do better in representing workers around the entire island. They come and talk but no results then this becomes the end. Workers striking and all these things.
And the comrades speak bs
Though it always appears like our prime Minister throwing somebody under the bus, this time I have to agree with him.
These unions now adays, are they compromised why it seems like they fumble bumble when handling the workers interests?!
Kudo to those workers who are feeling it and decide to expose these modern days …
More bs
