An Indian businessman, Prakashcandra Lohar, will have to wait until the end of January to learn his sentence after being found guilty of indecent assault.
His sentencing hearing was to take place on Friday, December 13, before Justice Ann-Marie Smith in the High Court.
The hearing was adjourned to January 31, 2025, primarily due to scheduling conflicts and the need for thorough case preparation. Lohar’s attorney, Wendel Alexander, requested time to carefully review the probation report before presenting a mitigation plea.
Lohar was convicted of two counts of indecent assault related to an incident on February 12, 2022. The charges arose after he offered a woman a ride during rainy weather. The woman subsequently accused him of performing sexual acts in her presence and engaging in other forms of sexual misconduct.
Alexander expressed hope that the matter could have been resolved before the new year but acknowledged the need for a comprehensive review of the probation report to provide the best possible defence for his client.
