In the St. Peter constituency, today marks Nomination Day, which is a crucial step in filling the vacancy left by the passing of Asot Michael on November 5, who had represented the parliamentary seat for the past two decades.
The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission announced that the returning officer will be present in the constituency from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm to accept nominations from those who wish to run in the upcoming by-election.
The ruling party, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, has already decided to nominate its current caretaker, Senator Rawdon Turner, as their candidate for the by-election scheduled for January 14, 2025.
The opposition United Progressive Party is anticipated to nominate George Wehner, a former ABDF officer, as their candidate.
Owen George of the Go Green Party also indicated that he will also be nominated this morning
To be eligible for nomination, candidates must have a proposer and a seconder, plus eight additional voters registered in the St. Peter constituency.
