Law enforcement is taking the necessary steps to ensure that the sudden rise in robberies that took place at the end of 2024 does not repeat itself in 2025.
Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney explained that several new initiatives have been implemented and other proposals will be looked at to ensure the people’s safety.
And while the police will be doing their part, the top cop said that credit must go to other specific societal groups who decided to act as well.
He is encouraging these groups to continue this practice.
“We created a new unit. We decided to change some of our strategies in terms of patrol and so on but I think the bigger picture is what happened and how it was handled which goes back to what I have been saying when we collaborate. The government stepped in, the Prime Minister met with the groups, the church stepped in, the community started to provide information to the police, the police themselves started to be more proactive and that’s what will bring that level of tranquillity that we want in Antigua and Barbuda,” Rodney said.
Last year, the force received several high-tech equipment to aid in crime fighting.
One being drones. Rodney mentioned that these gadgets have assisted greatly and is hoping to see even more equipment be given this year.
We the people heard you, Mr. Commissioner, we are waiting to see your new strategies in motion.
