School’s Basketball Competition to shoot off today

Cool and Smooth Inter-school Basketball League kicks off today

Today dozens of student athletes will gather at the JSC Sports Complex for the opening of the 2025 edition of the Cool and Smooth Inter-school Basketball League.

An official opening ceremony and march pass will be held at the complex with the participating in the Mini-Girls and Mini-Boys Primary, Mini-Boys Secondary, Junior Boys, Senior Girls and Senior Boys divisions.

Two matches will follow immediately after.

This year, two teams from the sister island Barbuda are expected to compete.

Coordinator of the competition and former national basketballer Carl “Bowlie” Knight shared his elation over a new season.

“Each year it’s a joy to watch these students play. They give it their all each game and its just great to see all that young talent on display,” Knight said.

Games will be played Monday through Friday at JSC starting from 2:30 pm.

Teams will be vying for a spot in the finals at the Night of Champions event.

Night of Champions is a marquee event put on by the School Basketball Unit where all six division finals play in one day at JSC.

This will be the third year of the event and promises to be bigger and better.

Last year, Sea View Farm Primary walked away with the double in the Mini-boys and Mini-Girls Primary divisions.

Demetrah Cox and Ezekiel Jackson and Keandi Jacobs were named the MVPs.

The girls teams were the Playoff and League Champions with JT Ambrose placing second while Post Millennial Academy came third.

The boys were also Overall Champions and were Champions in Zone B. Greenbay Primary placed second while TN Kirnon came third.

St. Joseph’s Academy were crowned back to back champions in the Mini-Boys Secondary section with Nathan Matthew being named MVP.

Antigua Grammar School came second while Clare Hall Secondary School placed third.

PMS were named the League and Playoff Champions while Clare Hall Secondary came second while the Antigua Grammar School were third.

Craig Massiah Jr of PMS would later be named MVP and also the Male Player of the Year.

Antigua Girls High School claimed the Playoff title defeating St. Anthony’s Secondary School in the finals. Aliana Jack was MVP.

SASS were however the league champs with Jenah Andrew named MVP and later Female Player of the Year.

SASS did win the Senior boys Playoff title while Clare Hall Secondary School won the league.

SASS was second and PMS, third.

Devonte Carter of SASS was Playoff MVP.

The Coaches of the Year Awards went to Edward Shaw and Tyea Ladoo.

This year’s Night of Champions is set to take place on April 6th.
