Antigua and Barbuda continues to be the Caribbean’s safest destination, a fact emphasized by Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez.
He believes this remarkable safety record has contributed significantly to attracting a growing number of visitors to the island.
Recently, the nation celebrated a monumental achievement, welcoming its one-millionth visitor—a testament to an exceptional year for its tourism industry.
Despite the optimism surrounding this milestone, Fernandez expressed concerns that the latest tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump could potentially impact the tourism sector.
Nevertheless, the government remains hopeful and committed to promoting travel to this idyllic destination.
Furthermore, Fernandez noted that since Trump’s announcement, a significant number of travelers have canceled their vacations to the United States.
Instead, they are increasingly choosing to visit the Caribbean, drawn by the allure of its beautiful beaches and vibrant cultures.
“I saw and article that people in Canada are canceling vacations to the US and they are now looking to come to the Caribbean and Antigua is the top choice,” he said
Additionally, Fernandez said Antigua and Barbuda is seen as a high-end destination and people visiting may not be concerned about the economy; meaning they can afford it.
“That I think will augur well for us…” he added.
