THE GOVERNOR GENERAL CELEBRATES WITH THE HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THEIR MILESTONE 5TH ANNIVERSARY AND SUCCESSFUL 6TH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

​The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Antigua and Barbuda proudly marks a month of celebration as it observes its 5th anniversary as a non-profit organization dedicated to cardiovascular health advocacy, education, and prevention.

Coinciding with this milestone, the Foundation successfully hosted its 6th Annual Heart and Stroke Symposium under the patronage of Their Excellencies Sir Rodney and Lady Williams.

The Symposium, held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Sandals Grande Resort and Spa, brought together medical professionals, researchers, and healthcare advocates to discuss emerging trends and advancements in cardiovascular care.

Under the theme, Navigating Modern Health: Technology, Mental Well-being, Stroke & Cardiac Care, the event provided a platform for critical discussions on acute stroke management, artificial intelligence in stroke care, the effects of cannabis use on the heart, chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and advancements in heart failure management.

His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda and Patron of the Foundation, delivered congratulatory remarks, emphasizing the importance of continuous medical education, innovation in healthcare, and proactive measures in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

“This symposium is a testament to our collective commitment to tackling cardiovascular and stroke-related challenges head-on. By fostering collaboration among experts, promoting education, and encouraging the adoption of innovative solutions, we are taking meaningful steps toward reducing the prevalence of NCDs and improving health outcomes for all,” stated Sir Rodney Williams in his address.

​His Excellency also presented awards to a number of key supporters of the Heart and Stroke Foundation including Dr. Victor Elliot -Managing Director at Partners Heart and Health, Jamaica, APUA INET and the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force.

On Monday, February 17, members of the Foundation’s Executive Committee paid a courtesy call on His Excellency at Government House, where they discussed the organization’s continued efforts to promote heart health awareness and expand access to preventive care.

Dr. Georgina Meade, President of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from Their Excellencies and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening cardiac and stroke care in Antigua and Barbuda.

“The past five years have been a journey of growth, advocacy, and impactful community outreach. As we celebrate this anniversary, we remain steadfast in our mission to save lives through education, screening, and improved treatment options,” said Dr. Meade.

Their Excellencies Sir Rodney and Lady Williams join the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Antigua and Barbuda in extending appreciation to its partners, sponsors, medical professionals, and volunteers who continue to play a crucial role in advancing its vision. The Foundation looks forward to another year of progress in enhancing cardiovascular health for the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
