New Winthorpes’ own La’Nica Locker continues to make waves in international athletics, securing a significant move to Louisiana State University’s (LSU) renowned track and field program.

The 19-year-old Antiguan sprinter’s signing was announced Monday by LSU Head Coach Dennis Shaver.

Locker, who has been making her mark at Hinds Community College, brings impressive credentials to one of America’s top collegiate track programs.

The young Antiguan athlete has already proven her mettle on the national stage, earning a bronze medal in the 100 meters at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championships.

Her personal best time of 11.63 seconds in the 100 meters, achieved during the NJCAA Division I Championships preliminaries, signals her growing potential.

The New Winthorpes native will join LSU’s accomplished women’s sprint squad this fall, marking another milestone in her rapidly ascending career.

Despite entering her third collegiate season, Locker’s youth – she’ll be just 19 when she arrives at LSU – combined with her proven talent, suggests a bright future ahead for the Antiguan sprinter.

Her success also included an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter final at the NJCAA championships, demonstrating her versatility in sprint events.
