New Measures Coming to Combat Impact of US Trade Policies on Local Economy
On Wednesday, the Cabinet engaged in a critical discussion regarding the implications of new trade policies introduced by the US Administration. These policies, which have already sparked significant disruptions to international trade relations, were brought to the forefront.
Government sources indicate that the discussion centered on how these US trade measures could influence the economy of Antigua and Barbuda, particularly concerning economic performance and the prices of goods sourced through US distributors in Miami and other locations.
Cabinet members appeared to reach a consensus regarding the potential for an impending recession in the United States, with the belief that tariff conflicts yield no genuine winners.
However, the Cabinet expressed optimism that proactive steps could be taken to mitigate adverse effects.
Recommendations included scaling up local farming initiatives, promoting the use of domestically produced goods, and exploring alternative markets that offer more competitive pricing compared to traditional sources.
