Mandatory Daily Removal of Vendor Structures

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

Notice From St. John’s Development Corporation to all St. John’s City Vendors

Effective immediately, all vending structures including tents, tables, stands, carts, chairs, trays, crates, pallets, umbrellas, food vans, food booths and any other fixture must be removed from the vending area daily following the close of operations.

This is essential to allow the cleaning of the streets and flushing of the sidewalks, gutters and drains by the St. John’s Development Corporation, National Solid Waste Management Authority and Central Board of Health (CBH).

Structures left overnight affects our ability to effectively clean these areas and create sanitation issues as well it allows the city to become unsightly.

Vendors who fail to remove their structures as required, will have these items removed at the vendor’s expense. Please make the necessary arrangements to comply to avoid any inconvenience.

The St. John’s Development Corporation continues to be vigilant in the management of the street vending operation. We ask for your cooperation as we move towards improving the sanitary standards and cleanliness of the City of St. John’s.

This is certainly a step in the right direction in making Antigua clean, orderly and beautiful. Vendors also need to be mindful to refrain from impeding pedestrian and motor traffic.

The SJDC is now reacting only because they have caught sleeping on the job. Time to get rid of all of its directors and hire persons with a natural love for Antigua, persons who have a deep and aesthetical appreciation for what our main town and its environs ought to display/portray/ look like! It is quite obvious that the Corporation has failed miserably at the task they were being paid dollar to perform. A perfect example of square pegs in a round hole.

Why don’t just take them up forever. This place should be the cleanest in Antigua and we see a bunch of old tents and crates. Let’s get better than this and clean up our country

Huhhh let me see how much compliance this will see. Cause some of those vendors think they at their home.
They might even sleep in the stall just so they don’t have to take it down
