Past President of the Rotary Club of Antigua Paul Ryan says the charity organization is mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a global figure of peace, compassion, and service.

He tells Antigua.news that Pope Francis has a connection with Rotary International.

“As then-Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he was made an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Buenos Aires in 1999. Additionally, he has connected with Rotary on multiple occasions to promote their shared values of peace and compassion,” he said.

Furthermore, Ryan said, over the years, Rotary International leaders had the profound honour of meeting the Pope—moments that symbolised our shared commitment to uplifting humanity and fostering goodwill across borders and beliefs.

“His legacy of servant leadership will continue to inspire Rotarians around the world. May he rest in peace”, he added.
