The United Progressive Party (UPP) has stated that its Labour Day celebration will continue as planned, dismissing attempts from the Antigua Labour Party (ALP) to undermine the event.

UPP Political Leader Jamale Pringle and MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, who chairs the event’s planning committee, are speaking out against what they describe as misinformation from ALP members regarding the participation of performing artist Armanii.

On April 25, 2025, Pringle signed a contract with Stardom Records LLC in Atlanta, securing Armanii’s performance for the “Labour Day Celebration” set for May 5, 2025. A 50% deposit was made, and airline tickets were purchased and sent to the necessary parties before the event advertising commenced.

Despite this, ALP operatives were already claiming that Armanii would not perform, even prior to the artist’s reported withdrawal from the engagement.

The UPP plans to pursue legal action to recover the funds paid for the contract, arguing that the misinformation shared by the ALP was a deliberate attempt to discredit the party and mislead the public.

“This is a pathetic and shameful tactic by the ALP to divert attention from their dwindling support,” Pringle stated. Nonetheless, they assured that the event would proceed, with alternative headliner Ayetian already on the island and ready to take the stage at the UPP’s Ffreyes Beach celebration.
