“You have to pause at times like these and think about your future,”.

That was the advice from Antigua and Barbuda Worker’s Union (ABWU) stalwart Harry Josiah at the union’s public rally earlier today.

He was speaking to workers and residents in Antigua and Barbuda to not falter and stand firm in their rights.

Josiah condemned the government on the rising cost of living, increase in taxes and lack of interest in minimum wage. Areas he says, the government should be focus on solely instead of being distracted with frivolous matters.

“The workers of this country have to understand. One can ask the question, where is your solution. Since the inception of this union, we have fought serious battles for the workers of this country…We can’t live on minimum wage. We have to look at a wage that persons can live on. It cannot be a broad wage. It must be looked at and revised based on the sector the person is working in,” Josiah stated.

He mentioned that over the 60 years since the ABWU was formed, they have sought and continued to fight for the people.

He added that it was the ABWU who fought for fathers to receive paternity leave similar to that of mothers.

Josiah in closing asked patrons to continue to support the ABWU as they continue to fight for the rights of workers.

  1. Well said, Mr. Josiah! It’s about time someone stood up and reminded us of our rights. The cost of living is out of control

  3. Paternity leave? Great! Now can we afford diapers with the current wages? Maybe the government’s too busy ‘looking busy’ to focus on real issues.
