A man has been sentenced to prison after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of an illegal firearm and ammunition in his vehicle.

Roan Hector received a 2-year and 2-month prison sentence for illegal firearm possession and a concurrent 9-month sentence for ammunition possession, Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel ruled on Thursday.

The case stems from an incident on April 27 when officers stationed at police headquarters noticed Hector’s vehicle suspiciously reversing along American Road, traveling from south to north.

The officers’ attention was immediately drawn to the irregular driving leading them to stop the vehicle and requesting permission to search the car.

During their thorough examination of the vehicle, law enforcement discovered a firearm hidden inside a black shopping bag. Further inspection revealed the weapon contained a magazine loaded with ten 9mm rounds of matching ammunition.

The sentencing aligns with local legislation that mandates incarceration for illegal possession of firearms.

With the sentences running concurrently, Hector will serve a total of 2 years and 2 months behind bars for both offenses.

    • You seem to have a problem with the question asked. But I’m very sure it’s the police that is set to protect us are the ones giving these guns to the streets. So many guns on island and yet still I’ve never seen the news media post anything about gun bust at any port of entry. How are the guns reaching in? That’s the first question.

  4. Well at least it’s not a case where you beat up someone or even kill them and said it was mistaken identity.
