Prime Minister Gaston Browne has emphasized the need for new legislation to enhance safety measures for participants in celebrations involving large trucks.

This call to action follows a tragic incident during last week’s Labour Day festivities, where a woman was killed after being struck by a truck.

Prime Minister Browne expressed his condolences to the family of 45-year-old Allissa Chiddick from Martin’s Village, who lost her life at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, near Millaz Beach Bar and Restaurant on Fort Road.

Reports indicate that Chiddick attempted to board a trailer truck moving along Fort Road when she accidentally fell beneath its rear wheels, resulting in multiple injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:30 p.m.

“This unfortunate event has overshadowed the celebrations, and it underscores the fundamental need for the protection of our citizens,” Browne noted.

He stressed the urgency of addressing security measures regarding large trucks, especially during festivities like carnival, to prevent further incidents and safeguard revelers.

The government is now actively considering various safety initiatives to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.

  1. These laws and regulations were put in place long ago but not really enforced other than at carnival

  2. To my knowlegde this was something in the talks some time ago when this happened to another lady. But the don’t care people just do as they feel. All music trucks should be inspected before getting on the road with people who are drunk and thoughtless. And there should be security stopping people from attempting to be on the truck
