In this video story, Antigua.news examines the recently concluded teacher’s strike that affected all public schools in the nation. The affair was a divisive issue – deeply polarizing most, if not all stakeholders. However, it would be regrettable if everyone came away from a partisan issue just as confirmed in their own bias as when they started.

Are there any learning opportunities to be used to our benefit, and can they inform similar situations in the future? We take a look into the details to see what can be sorted out.

    • Shame is what killing the government today. They don’t like when the shii they do goes public. Teachers have all rights necessary to strike. Everybody work and want them bread at the end of the day

    • Teacher have NOT been respected by the government at all! They have been cussed out by PM, Minister for standing up for better working conditions. When you people here downplay the teachers’ plight! We sacrifice MORE than ANY entity in society! We work when you sleep! We get NO overtime! We teacher WITHOUT resources, provide for students as parents! Who celebrates us! Instead society chests us of the pittance we use to help the ungrateful parents who see us as babysitters! Unfortunately, we have to demonstrate to society that teachers matter too! Tell the truth with no biases! How much we are respected, your actions will show!

    • I am just happy that the teachers were able to get what they demanded. Hope the two could work more harmoniously

  2. The ABUT has lost far more than they gained despite the loud cheers from the bleachers. Will the government be willing in joint venture enterprises? For example the establishment by true quality teaches of state assisted/quasi private schools in which government and parents share the financial responsibility for school’s basic operations . “Government Schhols” as they currently existing are outmoded and DO NOT operate as child-oriented centers if learning. They should become institutions of the past having long outlived their usefulness, judging from publicly announced results of students’ performances in a variety of examinations annually. There are other areas in the public service where out-of-work “teachers” can be assigned tasks

    • So it is wrong for teachersto stand up for outstanding allowances? Isn’t it the same PM that said that unions should represent hotel workers better? What is different here? Who is s reaming about firefighters sut in? Hypocrisy is plain and simple! WE ARE ALL EQUAL!

  3. I watched this video four times. The excellence in it’s production and even the narratives and script was done beautifully. Now to the issue at hand, we cannot get away from the reality that this situation was nor necessary to roll into a new week. The flexing of muscles…the show of power by the union representative was not done with any good intentions. OK I get it that six teachers were unpaid for telephone and transportation allowances…but the ministry of education came to the media ans said all payments are ready and collected as of Friday. For argument sake let’s say one of two people perhaps we’re unpaid because they did not have a chance to collect their monies…you cannot shut down school over this. I saw this as utter wickedness and agenda driven. And I bet the whole nation saw it too.

    • You REALLY believe the statement of 6 teachers??? Come on now. Love a false narrative in this place bad!
Bottom line if the allowances were paid from the JUMP this would not happen. But man… we retroactivity in this place. Heard couple a dem waiting for their back pay. Better go learn ya own pickney.

  4. Very Very SAD …… The Disrespect Shown to TEACHERS Of Our Nation — being owed Professional Upgrades and Pay Increases, Etc. SINCE 2018 …… Providing ONLY Lip Service Year After Year After Year!!!

…….. Many of Our Nation’s Teachers go Way beyond the CALL OF DUTY to Assist Our children in THIS NATION In So MANY Ways……. despite their Small Salaries……

…….. Unkept Promises from Our Administration Have Been the Order of the day, REPEATEDLY!

…….. Cabinet Members did not have to WAIT FOR THEIR INCREASE & BACK PAY —— Paid To Them IN FULL In Quick Fashion ….

……. Our Government Leaders See ONLY THEMSELVES AND THEIR NEEDS …… Sad Sad Sad …..

We will ALWAYS GET WHAT We SETTLE FOR …..

Our TEACHERS KNOW THEIR WORTH Despite the REPEATED DISRESPECT Demonstrated Towards Them by the Powers That Be!

…….. Thanks To Our Teachers Who Have Succeeded in Demonstrating to US ALL That There IS POWER IN UNITY …..

We Have Learned!!! …… AND You have Also Taught OUR Children & Youth HOW TO STAND UP FOR “WHAT YOU BELIEVE”. And “TO WORK FOR WHAT MUST BE DONE”….
And To Always Work AS A UNIT In Order to SUCCEED In Reaching THE DESIRED GOAL ….

    BRAVO TEACHERS!!!!!

You are Accustomed to Working OVERTIME….. THIS Will Not Be A CHALLENGE FOR YOU!!! You WILL Gladly Do THIS; AND Your STUDENTS Will APPRECIATE You Even More For THE LIFE LESSONS You Have Taught THEM Over the Past Weeks….. BLESSINGS 🌻😇🙏🏿💓🇦🇬

    • AAB…come on. Who said the teachers are not valued? I heard the government saying they value teachers and honour them. But their decision was a bit extreme and the whole country saw this for what it is. Politics. That doesn’t mean we think less of teachers…the issue is this wasn’t necessary and it was all the a plan of Mr casroy Charles

  6. I hope the government don’t allow this to happen again. Everyone blames the teachers as if they’re not humans. They have kids as well, they have bills as well, they have a life as well. Nobody is going to work under circumstances they don’t like. There’s only a few fools on earth

  7. Selfish selfish. That’s the only thing the actions of these teachers prove. They couldn’t worked until. Once it’s promised then that means it would come. Shame shame to these selfish humans

  9. This is rich content, I will admit. But when you are being bank rolled from Spain, it’s easier to have these well researched and put-together stories. Trying to beat the competition. People with money believe they could use it to win at all levels. I hope you win.

  10. How short the memory of a liar! This same fool talking about the children along with the political prostitutes? 2021 comes to mind. Or have we forgotten? These same children that ALP care so much about, were denied access to school for refusing to take a now defunct, deadly poison that is killing millions around the world, including Antigua and Barbuda. After Gaston Brown publicly declared that,”no one will be forced to take anything. We respect people’s rights.” Just pay people what they’ve earned and shut the he’ll up. You got 14% and a years retro in one fell swoop, yet you want to deny teachers pittance compared to what you go? Wow.
