Veteran prosecutor Clement Joseph has been appointed as the new Director of Public Prosecutions, set to assume office next Monday, May 19.
Joseph, who hails from Marigot, Dominica, brings an impressive legal background to the role. He most recently served as Director of Public Prosecutions in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The incoming DPP holds multiple advanced degrees including an LLM, an LLB with Honors, a Legal Education Certificate, and a Bachelor of Science. His diverse experience includes working within Dominica’s prosecution service before 2017, when he was elevated to the acting DPP position in Turks and Caicos.
In an interesting career trajectory, Joseph began his professional journey as a police officer in his native Dominica.
The appointment concludes an extensive search process initiated following the departure of former DPP Anthony Armstrong, who stepped down amid allegations of professional misconduct in Jamaica. Since Armstrong’s exit, Shannon Jones-Gittens has been serving in an acting capacity.
