Hon Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports, and the Creative Industries

Education Minister Daryll Matthew says to expect a soon-to-be-released, comprehensive report – one which breaks down the situation leading to the recently concluded industrial action taken by the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers.

On an appearance on state media this morning, Matthew challenged the accuracy of the event’s mainstream narrative.

“Over the last six weeks or so, there has been a lot of miscommunication, misunderstanding, misrepresentation of what the facts really are”, the Minister said.

Minister Matthew went on to explain why he felt there was a need for this to be done, even after the matter has seemingly been resolved.

“A lot of times – certainly since I started working for the government maybe 30 years ago, as a public servant – I’ve always noticed that public servants tend to try and stay away from the public. And so even in cases where they are correct in a position, they simply do not like to either write and document, or to go to the public to explain what a particular circumstance is, sometimes to their own detriment”, he said.

“And so when the public is only hearing one side of the equation, it gives a very skewed, and sometimes incorrect perspective of what has really transpired, and why it has gotten to that place.”

Minister Matthew says the report can be expected in the next few days, being made available to the public through the media.

  1. I thought that matter was settled already. I didn’t know that was still an issue which requires added clarity.
I mean is it even necessary

    • This man sometimes is just too reactive with what they are doing. Always seems behind the ball.

  2. I see the government is not planning to ride off the teachers backs. I see why the teachers had to put pressure on you idiots. Bunch of high seated goons.
