Sentencing Postponed for Driver Convicted in Fatal 2021 Accident

The sentencing of Kevon Small, convicted of causing death by dangerous driving, has been postponed until July 11.

Small was found guilty by a High Court jury in early April for the 2021 incident that resulted in the death of 50-year-old Colin Anderson Joseph.

The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before delivering their verdict in the case presided over by Justice Ann-Marie Smith.

The fatal accident occurred on September 1, 2021, at the intersection of Market and New Streets. Court evidence showed that Small, who was 34 at the time, struck Joseph with his vehicle at this junction.

Video evidence presented during the trial showed Joseph walking along Market Street and attempting to cross when Small’s vehicle approached from New Street. Joseph stepped back when he realized the vehicle wasn’t stopping, but Small’s vehicle continued turning, knocked him down, and ran over him before coming to a halt.

Joseph was transported to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre with severe injuries, including a skull fracture and trauma to his left leg. Medical tests revealed no brain activity, and despite being placed on a ventilator, he eventually died from his injuries.

Small claimed to suffer from a medical condition causing chest pain, dizziness, and breathing difficulties triggered by stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. However, no evidence was presented to confirm this condition, and Small reportedly was not taking medication for it.

  1. Wow. I mean to run over somebody to even kill them he could not have been driving at a normal speed.
Is he saying his claimed medical conditions could have been responsible?

  2. Something about this accident sounds to purposely done then blamed on a medical condition. Now there’s evidence of such condition and he wasn’t on medications. Hmmm
