In a recent broadcast of the Browne and Browne show, Prime Minister Gaston Browne expressed his commitment to inclusivity, inviting supporters from the opposition to partake in investment opportunities tied to the newly proposed plots at Pensioner’s Point.
He underscored the idea that government-owned land is a resource meant for all citizens, irrespective of their political leanings.
Prime Minister Browne urged those in opposition not to dismiss these opportunities simply based on party affiliation, describing it as “total ignorance” to forgo potential empowerment through investment.
The initiative aims to be accessible to all Antiguans and Barbudans, including those in the diaspora, promoting a sense of community ownership and participation.
To bolster accessibility, Browne suggested innovative financing options, such as using existing properties for collateral to secure investments.
In a light-hearted exchange with a caller, he encouraged proactive financial engagement, reinforcing the notion that collaboration across political lines can be beneficial for all.
Recognizing the potential contributions of the diaspora, Browne highlighted that many Antiguans and Barbudans living abroad are keen to invest, yet often remain unaware of available opportunities.
He noted the significant interest from this community, particularly with many investors inquiring about Pensioners Beach.
In detailing the project’s structure, the Prime Minister explained that instead of a single large hotel occupying 40 acres, only 6 acres are designated for that purpose.
The decision to subdivide the remaining land into individual lots caters to local preferences, as many citizens are more inclined to purchase land to build rather than buy shares in companies.
This strategic approach aligns with the growing trend in tourism, particularly in the Airbnb market, where approximately 35% of visitors to Antigua and Barbuda opt for such accommodations. By creating lots that contribute to the tourism ecosystem, the government aims to foster economic growth and broaden investment opportunities for all.
