Former DPP to Defend Alleged Child Killer Angela Mejia

Former Director of Public Prosecutions Anthony Armstrong is set to represent Angela Mejia, who has been charged with the murder of 9-year-old Chantel Crump.

Although Armstrong did not attend court today, attorneys standing in for him confirmed that he will be overseeing the defense.

This morning, there was a heavy police presence at the court. Several journalists were prevented from approaching the perimeter, which was guarded by heavily armed policemen.

According to police, Mejia allegedly picked up Chantel in Grays Farm on March 12 and later killed her in Glanvilles.

During today’s hearing, the court was informed that the case file is still under investigation, and the matter has been rescheduled for committal proceedings on September 17.

  1. Someone stand to defend such a girl? I hope we get the justice! I couldn’t be someone high in power at a time like this! She’s lucky to still have breath. And of course they would have heavy court presence. Protecting the devil? Where was Chantel’s protection? Where was the heavy police presence when Chantel was kidnapped?

      • Would even expect anyone to defend her stone! A cold blooded child murderer. What about her accomplice? He probably on a boat somewhere. What they going to do next? Dismiss the case and send her along with her accomplice to Venezuela? Cause that seems like Antigua’s get away country

  2. Not shocking ofc. I know someone will step to the plate. This will be tried and they will continue pushing back the date. The autopsy results were inconclusive right? Yeah. They will say there were no evidence of cause of death

  5. Criminals globally have the right to their day in court! Due process is available for everyone.

You are behaving as if this is the first young girl to be kidnapped and killed.

I sympathise with the family on the loss of their sweet child but let’s be sensible here and not let emotions and sentiment take over.

Let good sense prevail! Angela deserves her day in court so that the nation can truly understand what motivated the murder.

And defence lawyers are trained to be impartial and look at the facts of the matter, and not get carried away by public opinion.
