Former Director of Public Prosecutions, Anthony Armstrong, says he is not representing Angela Mejia, the woman charged with the murder of 9-year-old Chantel Crump.

Though a lawyer in court on Wednesday morning said Armstrong would lead the defence, Armstrong tells ABS News he has never met or spoken with Mejia.

He confirms being approached and asked to represent her, but says he has neither been retained, or instructed by her.

The clarification comes after today’s committal hearing for Mejia, who prosecutors allege killed Chantel March 12 in Glanvilles.

The case is still in its preliminary phase as the court decides whether it will go to trial.
