Teen Faces Psychiatric Evaluation After Threatening to Kill Grandparent

The court has mandated a psychiatric evaluation for a young man after reports of his erratic behavior and statements from his grandmother concerning threats made toward her. Recently, he appeared at St John’s Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason, facing charges for damaging a van window.

The young man threatened to kill his grandmother and brandished a cleaver, which deeply alarmed her. She expressed her confusion and fear to the court, stating that she had to seek help from another grandson due to the escalating situation.

The elderly woman, clearly distressed, described her grandson’s behavior as “very rude and disrespectful,” emphasizing that he often disregarded her advice and wishes.

During the proceedings, the young man exhibited a nervous twitch and insisted that his grandmother was not being truthful about his actions.

Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason expressed concern for the young man’s mental health and decided to remand him to His Majesty’s Prison for a psychiatric evaluation.

The elderly woman, feeling unsafe and overwhelmed, made it clear that she did not want him living with her, stating that she felt her life was in danger.
