Antigua and Barbuda secures spot on the 2025 Travel Green List
Antigua and Barbuda has proudly secured a spot on the prestigious 2025 Travel Green List, established by Wanderlust, a leading UK-based travel platform. This notable achievement marks the first time the twin-island destination has been featured on the list, which is dedicated to recognizing global leaders in sustainable and responsible tourism.
The accolade highlights the remarkable efforts of The Elkhorn Marine Conservancy’s Coral Reef Restoration Project, which aims to protect and rehabilitate the nation’s vital marine ecosystems. Through this initiative, Antigua and Barbuda is not only fostering local biodiversity but also safeguarding coastal communities and bolstering the tourism and fishing sectors that are essential to its economy.
The recognition comes as a result of the hard work by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s UK team, spearheaded by Cherrie Osborne, the Director of Tourism for the UK and Europe. This team has been instrumental in promoting the destination’s sustainability initiatives within the UK, collaborating closely with media outlets to elevate awareness of the Coral Reef Restoration Project, ultimately leading to its selection for the esteemed 2025 list by Wanderlust’s editorial board.
“The Coral Reef Restoration Project is a shining example of the impactful, long-term environmental work being done in Antigua and Barbuda,” remarked Cherrie Osborne. “It’s a privilege to see this recognized by a publication as influential as Wanderlust.”
The Coral Reef Restoration Project involves the collection of coral fragments, cultivation in underwater nurseries, and transplantation onto damaged reefs, with over 1,000 coral fragments currently in cultivation and plans for further expansion.
At the upcoming World Travel Market 2025, the project will have a prominent presence on the Antigua and Barbuda stand, featuring an immersive VR coral restoration experience as part of the UK campaign to promote sustainable tourism.
Congratulations on this accolade
Antigua and barbuda is still the number one destination in the world
Glad to see Cherrie Osborne and her team doing work abroad. Now let’s see some matching investment from the Ministry of Environment
This is great news, but I hope the locals benefit just as much as the tourists. Sustainable tourism must include sustainable communities.
