In a historic event marking the first International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a compelling speech emphasizing the importance of dialogue among civilizations to foster a peaceful and prosperous global community.

Held on June 10, 2025, the event was attended by distinguished guests and representatives from around the world, highlighting the significance of this day as established by the United Nations. In his remarks, Wang Yi celebrated the diverse cultural tapestry of over 200 countries and 2,500 nations, underlining that the interactions between civilizations are crucial in a rapidly changing world.

Wang noted that the resolution declaring June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations was adopted unanimously during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This resolution, co-sponsored by China and 82 other countries, reflects a collective aspiration to promote understanding, peace, and mutual respect in an increasingly interconnected world.

“Dialogue among civilizations is a bond of peace,” said Wang, emphasizing that such exchanges can bridge divides and eliminate prejudice, thus reinforcing mutual trust and safeguarding global security. He pointed to the historical context of the Silk Road as a testament to how civilizations can thrive through communication and collaboration.

The Foreign Minister outlined three key aspects of China’s commitment to advancing dialogue among civilizations: upholding equality among all civilizations, promoting exchanges and mutual learning, and encouraging the progress of civilizations.

Wang emphasized the need to respect diverse development paths and social systems, advocating for true multilateralism and fairness in international relations. He also announced China’s consideration to host the Global Forum of the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations in 2028, along with increased support for established mechanisms that foster inter-civilizational dialogue.

As the world navigates unprecedented challenges, including technological advancements, Wang called for a cohesive approach to human progress, urging nations to embrace cooperation over confrontation.

The event concluded with Wang Yi expressing hope that through dialogue and understanding, humanity can build an indivisible community with a shared future, fostering peace and cooperation across all civilizations.

This inaugural celebration of the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations serves as a reminder of the powerful impact of communication in addressing global challenges and the shared responsibility of nations to collaborate for a better world.
