Section of Dominica Grammar School Roof Collapses During Construction
No injuries were reported after a section of the concrete roof of the new Dominica Grammar School (DGS) collapsed during ongoing construction works on Monday. The incident took place in the area designated for the school’s auditorium.
Education Minister Octavia Alfred confirmed that despite the collapse, no one was injured. “Fortunately, no one was injured,” she stated. “There is no risk to students or staff as the construction area is secure and separate from school operations.”
Alfred also emphasized that students and staff are not permitted access to the construction site, allowing classes and other activities to continue as normal.
In response to the incident, the Ministry of Education has engaged the contractor involved, and the matter is currently under review.
“The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training, and National Excellence assures all that the safety of students, staff, and the wider school community remains our highest priority,” Alfred added, reassuring the community of their commitment to safety measures.
As investigations proceed, the construction project will be closely monitored to prevent any future incidents.
