The government of Antigua and Barbuda has reported a continued increase in overall revenue from the Port Authority. Having been invited by Cabinet to give an update on operations and financial prospects, Port Manager Darwin Telemaque reports revenues of over EC $62 million for 2024. As 2014 yielded Port revenues of EC $21 million, this 2024 number indicates that revenue is trending upward.

Mr. Telemaque also reported a continued increase in cargo traffic, noting the only exception to be the disruption caused by the COVID-19 period in 2021. He noted that Antigua and Barbuda has taken on a increased role as a transshipment hub in the subregion – seeing more than 8,700 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units already in 2025, which is a 4% increase from 2024 during the same period.

Government has decided to implement several initiatives to further boost the capacity and administrative efficiency at the Port, agreeing to engage with all relevant unions towards this end. The initiatives include: setting up an Inland Revenue Office to “facilitate direct payment processing”, training programs for the ABDF, and other updated operational modes for the Port Authority.

  2. Antigua becoming a transshipment hub? That’s a smart move for regional influence and job creation. And by the way, that wouldn’t have a been a job well done without Telemaque
