Four students from Sir McChesney George Secondary School in Barbuda have earned national recognition after achieving top CSEC Mathematics results, an achievement hailed as transformative for education on the sister isle.

Deshawn Barton, Dasheek Charles, and Reniah Nibbs each secured Grade I passes, while Gregory-Ann Thomas earned a Grade II, an impressive feat for students who faced significant resource challenges throughout their studies.

The group was specially recognized during the 39th Annual ACB Caribbean National CSEC Awards Ceremony, where they were praised not just for their academic success, but for “rewriting the academic narrative” of their community.

“These students did not simply pass the CSEC mathematics examination; they shattered long-standing barriers with exceptional distinctions,” the moderators also noted during the Ceremony

Director of Education Clare Browne echoed the sentiment, calling their performance a powerful example of perseverance and community spirit in the face of adversity.

Despite limited access to teachers, materials, and support compared to their peers on the mainland, the students leaned on teamwork and determination. Through after-school classes and collaborative study sessions, they pushed each other toward excellence.

Now, they are setting their sights on careers in fields such as dentistry, culinary arts, aviation, and electrical engineering, all requiring a solid foundation in mathematics.

Their achievement not only marks a personal triumph, but also serves as inspiration for future CSEC students in Barbuda, proving that with resilience and peer support, excellence is possible, even in the most challenging circumstances.
