VIDEO: PM Browne Defends Social Security $75M Investment in Jolly Beach Hotel

21 June 2025 - 07:17

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has come out in strong defence of the Social Security Board’s planned EC $75 million investment into the Jolly Beach Hotel, calling it a strategic move to boost the financial sustainability of the national pension system.

Browne dismissed opposition criticism, asserting that the government-backed investment will deliver long-term benefits for both the national economy and Social Security beneficiaries.

He emphasized that redeveloping Jolly Beach will transform the property into a revenue-generating asset, strengthening the Social Security Board’s long-term financial stability.

    • I think you meant to say “finance”. However, I totally agree. In spite of This Jolly Beach investment by Social Security sparking debate, if PM Browne’s defense holds true, it could be a significant boost.

  5. I get the idea, but what guarantees do pensioners really have that this won’t backfire? Hope they’ve done the proper due diligence.

  8. Isn’t there a conflict of interest here from GB? Of course as head of the government he will vote for this. He may even have been the main proposer of the scheme. Does GB not have appartment(s) on the complex. Thus, if the complext does well his personal investment wealth increase. That said, what happens in low season. What happens when tourisium reduces? Should workers monies not be invested in less Ricky investmeants? This is not goverment monies to use as they like. Did the social security board approve this investment?
Where is the due deligence and projected returns on this investment Mr Brown.
How is this investment possible when pensioners still cannot get their payments on time?
