Commercial Manager Suspended Following Anti-Gay Campaign at V.C Bird International
Antigua.news can confirm that the commercial manager at the V.C. Bird International Airport has been suspended pending an investigation into her role in granting access to CitizenGO, an organization known for its anti-gay advocacy. The woman was the head of her department.
The woman stated that, although she gave her approval, she was unaware of the details of the advertisement.
The campaign, which included both digital and printed advertisements in the airport’s arrivals area, has received widespread condemnation from both local and international observers.
CitizenGO, recognized globally for promoting anti-LGBTQ+ narratives, launched the controversial campaign to coincide with the arrival of delegates for the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly taking place in Antigua this week.
Critics argue that the group’s messaging is in stark opposition to the core principles of the OAS, which emphasize equality and inclusion.
Reports indicate that the suspended airport worker authorized members of the organization to display their posters and flags, leading to an outcry among human rights advocates. Following intervention by key government officials, all related paraphernalia, including flags and digital ads, have since been removed.
Human rights advocates warn that the proliferation of such ads could severely tarnish Antigua and Barbuda’s international reputation, particularly at a time when the country is under scrutiny for hosting a significant human rights-focused summit.
If gays offend you that much. They must be doing something right. Hell , when you guys start to pay people not to be gay. Call me. I can be gay for a min lol 😂😂😂😂😂
Waw. Just Waw. I am Wawing at the comment from whiteanonrabit.
Wow. Can tell when you’re with the gays! Thats how these people act! Suspend the man cause he wants to make a change? Anything for reputation.
Hmm. Some gay person in authority was offended I guess!
Very offended…🤣🤣🤣🤣
How can you give advertising authorization and u don’t even know what the add is about. That is irresponsible
Irresponsibility to the max. They are busy devising plans to get rid of their subordinates while they themselves doing nonsense
The airport was definitely not a suitable place for such ads/protest. On the other hand perhaps we should reconsider hosting certain types of conferences if they are going to lead to so much controversy. Perhaps just host peaceful ones like the environmental ones?
Exactly, most Caribbean citizens are still sensitive to these topics due to religious beliefs and ethicals views.
