More than 60 Soca artists took the stage last night in the Groovy Soca Monarch quarterfinals, each hoping to secure one of fifteen spots in the next round of competition.
The semi-finalists are yet to be announced.
The evening of musical performances has set the stage for tonight’s Jumpy Soca preliminaries, where the competition continues.
The Jack Idle venue will host the high-energy showdown beginning at 7:30pm.
Semifinal action moves to the larger Carnival City venue on July 18 where organizers have planned a special Cooler Fete featuring Trinidadian Soca artist Young Bredda at 8pm.
Thereafter, nine top Groovy artists will join eight leading Jumpy competitors for the ultimate showdown on Sunday, August 3.
Each category champion will be earning $50,000.
Over 60 artists? That’s more than a competition, it’s a cultural explosion! Big up to everyone who hit the stage and kept the vibes alive!
sixty…………the price must be a million dollars. Good for all those who think its viable. Antiguans just love reveling and partying and broke broke broke after.
I hope the judges don’t just go off name recognition. Some of the younger artists really deserve a spot in the semis.
Cooler fete with Young Bredda? Say less. That alone selling out Carnival City. Antigua Carnival doing it big this year. ITZ A VIBE!!!!!
Wish the show had a steadier flow but was enjoyed it in spite
