Antigua and Barbuda Gears Up for a Vibrant Carnival Celebration

Significant progress being mad in preparations for the upcoming Carnival celebrations.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Cabinet recently received an enthusiastic update from Daryll Matthew, Minister responsible for Carnival, highlighting significant progress in preparations for the upcoming Carnival celebrations.

Scheduled to run from July 25 to August 5, this year’s festival is anticipated to be one of the most vibrant in recent history, organized under the electrifying theme, “It’s A Vibe.”

With just weeks remaining until the opening festivities, excitement is palpable both locally and internationally.

Minister Matthew reported rising participation levels, which are evident in the ongoing Soca and Calypso Quarterfinals.

The final touches to Carnival City at the Antigua Recreation Grounds are nearing completion, ensuring a vibrant venue for thousands of revellers and spectators.

Tickets for the major events are now on sale, and hotels throughout the island are reporting impressive occupancy rates exceeding 90% during the carnival period, signaling strong interest from regional and international visitors.

To accommodate the increasing demand, Caribbean Airlines has introduced two special flights from Trinidad and Tobago, and American Airlines is operating three daily flights from Miami, USA.

Furthermore, LIAT is seeing increased bookings from neighboring islands, underscoring Antigua’s status as a key cultural destination in the Caribbean.

In addition to the Carnival festivities, Minister Matthew noted the active role of the Festivals Commission in supporting the Watch Night Celebrations, which commemorate the Emancipation from Slavery—the very foundation of Carnival’s cultural significance.

The Minister confidently concluded that all signs point toward an exciting, safe, and culturally rich Carnival 2025, promising unforgettable experiences for both residents and visitors alike. As the countdown continues, the anticipation for this year’s celebrations only grows stronger.
