The Public Works Department reports that it is committed to improving road conditions along the Carnival Tuesday parade route for a safe and enjoyable experience. This according to a press release on Monday afternoon, where the department promises to provide updates through official channels as work progresses.

According to PWD, the new route will cover the following roads: Old Parham Road, Simon Bolivar Boulevard, Sir Sydney Walling Highway, Parliament Drive, Queen Elizabeth Highway, Independence Drive, and Redcliffe Street.

The PWD acknowledges that road enhancement projects face challenges from unexpected breakages of old cast iron water pipes and heavy machinery used in construction may cause vibrations and pressure changes, potentially leading to leaks.

The Department says it is working closely with the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) to improve roads after replacing old pipes, and states they may need to conduct essential road repairs before re-piping, which could involve APUA excavating newly refurbished roads to fix any leaks.

In addition to this, the Ministry of Housing & Works says it is working to beautify St. John’s through tree-planting and initiatives along newly refurbished roads; begging resident’s patience and understanding as they continue to improve the commuting experience in St. John’s and island-wide.
