National Hurricane Center indicates that no new storm formation is expected in the Atlantic over the next seven days
The National Hurricane Center issued its latest tropical weather outlook Tuesday morning, indicating that no new storm formation is expected across the Atlantic basin over the next seven days.
The 8:00 AM EDT outlook for the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico shows continued quiet conditions, with forecasters seeing no signs of immediate tropical development.
The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season has gotten off to a quiet start despite predictions of above-normal activity, with three named storms so far but no hurricanes.
The season began with Tropical Storm Andrea on June 24, followed by Barry on June 29, with both storms lasting less than a day. The most recent activity was Tropical Storm Chantal, which formed on July 5.
Despite the current lull, NOAA’s seasonal outlook predicts a 60% chance of an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season, with only a 30% chance of near-normal activity and a 10% chance of below-normal conditions.
Colorado State University forecasters are predicting 17 named storms for the entire season, including nine hurricanes, four of which could reach major hurricane strength.

Every year they predict above-normal activity and then it’s crickets. Feels like a guessing game sometimes.
Just because it’s quiet now doesn’t mean we’re in the clear. Everyone should still have their hurricane kits ready.
Hopefully it remains that quiet
It’s always a relief when the hurricane season starts off quietly, especially in the Caribbean! We’ll take these calm days while they last.
And so shall it remain
