International Soca artist Machel Montano was warmly welcomed at VC Bird International Airport in Antigua on Tuesday morning, greeted by members of the Festivals Commission and the Tourism Authority, alongside a cultural display featuring an iron band, moko jumbies, and stilt walkers. Machel’s appreciation was evident as he joined in the festivities, taking drumsticks from a drummer for an impromptu performance.
Chairman of the Festival Commission, Lisa Makhoul, expressed excitement for Machel’s first performance in Antigua in eight years, noting it coincides with his 40th anniversary in show business and the 40th anniversary of Burning Flames. Machel has strong ties to the region and a personal friendship with Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
The show, part of the Caribbean Melting Pot event at Carnival City, will feature Machel, his band, dancers, and local artists like Claudette Peters and Tian Winter, promising high-energy performances that celebrate Caribbean culture of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

We need to extend that welcome to all artists not just him
Tru.
Why are we still even melting pots and not cancelling carnival? People children are drying like flies. What are we?
