According to the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service affairs, the newly established Tranquility Park Cemetery was broken into recently. The Ministry has condemned this act, calling it a violation of “the sanctity of this space”.

According to reports, several items were stolen, including an AC unit and a water cooler. There was also extensive damage reported, with the telecommunication infrastructure and electrical wiring ransacked.

The Ministry of Health posted about the incident on their social media post, saying they were “deeply troubled” as the cemetery was “established to serve the people of Antigua and Barbuda with dignity, respect, and care”. Despite this mishap, they have committed to protecting the cemetery and “maintaining its integrity for all families and future generations.”

Reportedly, an active police investigation is underway, with the Ministry of Health urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement in bringing about due justice.

  7. This is absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting. To break into a cemetery, a place of peace and final rest, shows a complete lack of respect for the dead and their families. It’s not just about the stolen items; it’s about the violation of a sacred space. I’m hopeful that the police investigation is swift and that the culprits are brought to justice for this truly low act.
