More than 750 men participated in the 17th Annual Prostate Cancer Screening Clinic on Saturday, August 16, highlighting the importance of early detection in the fight against one of the world’s deadliest male cancers.

The clinic, organized by Dr. Dwayne Thwaites and Associates in collaboration with the Lions Club of Antigua, offered a range of health screenings including PSA blood tests, doctor examinations, blood pressure checks, and blood sugar testing. The event was also supported by Bio Health Medical and the Medical Benefits Scheme.

Despite poor weather conditions, men arrived as early as 7 a.m. to take part in the screening, demonstrating a strong commitment to their health. The Antigua Leos Club also held a breakfast fundraiser during the event to support its community initiatives.

Lion Ileathea Cabral MJF, President of the Lions Club of Antigua, said the turnout was encouraging.

The event was made possible with the backing of numerous sponsors, including the Medical Benefits Scheme, Sagicor Insurance, Do Blue Foundation, Falmouth Marina, Manna Trading Ltd., and Community First Cooperative Credit Union. Their support allowed the clinic to offer screenings at an affordable rate while providing additional health services.

Other partners such as the American University of Antigua, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, and various local businesses contributed to the smooth operation of the event.

Organizers emphasized the life-saving value of early detection and encouraged men to continue prioritizing their health. The Lions Club of Antigua said it looks forward to expanding the program next year to reach even more participants.
