The Consul General of the Dominican Republic, Joaquín Díaz López, has held high-level discussions with Antigua and Barbuda’s Chief of Immigration, Katrina Yearwood, to address concerns surrounding Dominican nationals living on the island.
The meeting, attended by senior immigration officials including Eulandis Pilgrim, John Mendes, and Hubert Smith, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and ensuring fair, humane treatment of Dominican citizens, particularly those in irregular migratory status.
Díaz, who was joined by Vice Consul Huáscar Ogando and other members of the Dominican diplomatic corps, described the talks as a significant step forward in protecting his country’s nationals while deepening collaboration with Antiguan authorities.
“This meeting sets an important precedent and motivates us to work together for the well-being of our nationals,” he said, confirming that both sides have agreed on a joint work agenda to tackle immigration challenges.
The consul praised the “full cooperation” between Antigua and Barbuda and the Dominican Republic, stressing that both governments remain committed to building stronger bilateral relations grounded in mutual respect.
Officials say the initiative underscores the Dominican Republic’s broader commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad while contributing to closer ties with host nations.

Glad to see Antigua and Barbuda cooperating with the Dominican Republic. This can only strengthen regional ties
It’s impressive that officials are addressing irregular migration with fairness rather than just enforcement.
Next time please specify Dominican Republic Consul.
Happy that the meeting was fruitful
Hopefully the Dominican Republic gives the same humane treatment to the Haitians that they’re demanding from Antigua! Nuff said!!!
Good to see both sides sitting down to address these issues.
