Secondary schools receive monetary support from Ministry of Sports for sports programs

On Thursday morning, principals from the various Secondary Schools across the island received a big boost towards the improvement of their sports programs.

The Ministry of Sports issued cheques to the schools at the School-Sports Collaboration Meeting at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

Each school, according to the Minister of Sports Daryll Matthew, were allocated various sums based on their school population and needs. Some schools received up to $20 thousand dollars.

The monetary support was a commitment made earlier in the year by the minister himself at the National Sports Awards.

This support is geared towards helping the school faculty improve offset some of the costs associated with managing a thriving sports program in their schools.

Clare Hall Secondary School (CHSS), Ottos Comprehensive School (OCS), All Saints Secondary School (ASSS), Sir Novelle Richards Academy (SNRA), Pares Secondary School (PSS), Irene B Willians Secondary School, Jennings Secondary School, St. Mary’s Secondary School, Antigua Grammar School, Antigua Girls High School, Princess Margaret School, the Harrison Centre and the Sir McChesney George High School.

The schools who also placed in the recent Interschool Track and Field Championships also received their prize monies.
