$31,900 Raised for ABS Anchor’s Medical Care

Cherilyn Beazer

$31,900 was raised last night during a telethon hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service (ABS) to assist long-time news anchor Cherilyn Beazer with urgent medical expenses. The effort surpassed the initial $30,000 target, reflecting a wave of community generosity.

The event began at 8 p.m., with ABS employees working the telephones and local artistes donating their time and talent to provide entertainment. Viewers and supporters responded swiftly, pledging thousands within the first hour and steadily pushing the tally beyond the goal.

Beazer, a familiar face on ABS television for many years, recently revealed that she had to travel to Colombia for treatment after a lesion developed on her right jaw about six months ago. Following an ultrasound, her dentist grew concerned that the lesion might be cancerous, prompting the need for a biopsy and specialized care overseas.

In a video message, Beazer expressed gratitude to her family, friends, and the medical professionals who have supported her through the process.

ABS General Manager Erna-Mae Braithwaite praised the outpouring of support, noting that the first stage of Beazer’s treatment began today. She described the telethon as the community’s way of giving back to someone who has served the nation with dedication through her work in broadcasting.

Although the live telethon has concluded, contributions are still being accepted, with every dollar going directly toward medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing support for Beazer.
