Stay Hydrated as Temperatures Soar

As the island continues to experience soaring temperatures, health officials are reminding both students and residents to make hydration a top priority.

High heat can take a toll on the body, leading to fatigue, headaches, dizziness, and in severe cases, heat exhaustion. For children and young adults in schools, staying hydrated is especially important for concentration, energy, and overall wellbeing.

In a recent advisory, the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center advise that the best way to beat the heat is simple: drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Replacing sugary sodas and carbonated drinks with fresh water helps the body regulate its temperature, improves digestion, and supports healthy skin and immunity.

Parents are encouraged to pack reusable water bottles for their children, while teachers are urged to remind students to take frequent water breaks.

Meanwhile, adults and the elderly are advised to listen to their bodies thirst is often the first sign of dehydration.
