A 42-year-old man facing murder charges in the country’s first homicide case of 2025 will have to wait until November to learn if his case will proceed to the High Court.

Deon Lloyd of Lower Ottos appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel this week for what was expected to be his committal hearing, but the proceedings were postponed to November 5.

Lloyd stands accused of fatally shooting 35-year-old Javorn Williams during an incident at Mount Obama, also known as Boggy Peak, on January 2. The deadly encounter allegedly stemmed from an altercation between the two men.

Following the New Year’s Day incident, Lloyd was apprehended while receiving medical treatment at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. He notably appeared in court for his first hearing in January wearing a cast on his arm.

Lloyd has been held at His Majesty’s Prison since his arrest and continues to be represented by defense attorney Wendel Alexander.

The committal hearing will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to send the case to the High Court for trial.

      Lloyd has been held at His Majesty’s Prison since his arrest! News Room you sure about this one ya? Because I’m sure Mr. Lloyd is out on and about walking these streets of ANU🤔… If he’s being held who let him out or does he have a twin brother. Asking for my fellow countyman😑😑😑😑😑

    Self defense is not murder. This man fought for his life. If he didnt fight back he would be dead. Do you even know that he was hospitalized? Injured so severely he needed surgery? Know the facts before you speak nonesense.

    Seeing Deon walk into court with a cast earlier this year really show how violent that whole encounter was. Nothing good come from violence, only heartbreak

    Boy i tell you…This cycle of violence must come to an end for the sake of the next generation. Too many young men are losing their lives and too many families are being torn apart. Antigua and Barbuda cannot continue down this path. pEOPLE we are losing our strength…We are drying as a nation… We need more dialogue, more respect for one another, and stronger community support systems. Guns and anger should never be the answer let peace and justice guide our nation forward.
