The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission (ABFC) has officially opened registration for several major activities that will highlight the nation’s 44th Anniversary of Independence, which will be celebrated under the theme “Solid – Stable – Soaring.”

The Commission confirmed that deadlines for registration have been set for the following events: the Festival of Choirs on Friday, September 26; the Independence Calypso Competition on Friday, October 10; and the National Schools’ Panorama Vendors, National Independence Business Décor Competition, and National Food Fair Vendors, all on Friday, October 17.

Forms are available at two locations: the Ministry of Creative Industries on Old Parham Road (upstairs the KFC/INET building), where registration is open Monday to Thursday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and the National Festivals Office, located in the Cecil George-John Building on Redcliffe Street, where registration is accepted Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

The ABFC emphasized that registration for food vendors will only be processed at the Ministry of Creative Industries, since payment is required upon form submission. Space is limited, the Commission cautioned.

In addition, food vendors and their assistants must present a valid Food Handler’s Certificate, and beverages may not be sold in bottles. Vendors operating grills must also have a certified fire extinguisher. Failure to comply with these rules, the Commission warned, will result in the immediate revocation of licenses.

The ABFC reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and called on all participants to adhere strictly to the guidelines as preparations move into high gear for this year’s Independence celebrations.
