Students and teachers at Clare Hall Secondary School now have a daily reminder of the power of peace, thanks to the Rotary Club of Antigua. On Thursday, the Club unveiled a Peace Pole on the school grounds, part of a global initiative promoting unity and understanding.

The simple monument, inscribed with the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” joins thousands of others installed worldwide. For Rotarians, it is more than just a marker — it is a symbol of hope and a call to action.

Rotary Club president Elisa Graham told students gathered for the ceremony that the Peace Pole should inspire them to live peace every day.

“By placing this Peace Pole here, we are planting a seed of unity, compassion, and understanding,” she said. “We hope it grows into a lasting reminder that every student has the power to be a peacemaker at home, at school, and one day, in the wider world.”

Principal Lorna Richardson was quick to embrace the initiative. “It is indeed a pleasure and an honor for us at Clare Hall Secondary School to be part of this initiative. Immediately when I heard of it, I was excited and eager to welcome it,” she said.

“Here at Clare Hall, we strive not only to educate for academics but to instill peace, teach conflict resolution, and raise productive citizens. We therefore welcome this initiative wholeheartedly and indeed, may peace prevail on earth.”

The event also celebrated the role of teachers and administrators in nurturing not only young minds but also young hearts. “To the students of Clare Hall, this Peace Pole is for you,” Graham added. “Let it inspire you to listen more, care deeper, and lead with kindness. And to the teachers, thank you for your work. As Rotarians, our mission is Service Above Self. Today, that service is rooted in hope hope that peace will not just be a dream, but a shared reality.”

With this installation, the Rotary Club of Antigua continues its push to foster peace among the nation’s youth, planting seeds that leaders hope will grow into a more compassionate and harmonious future.
