A St Lucian national that had admitted guilt in the 2021 fatal shooting of Customs Officer Zorina Benjamin will be sentenced later this month.

Delon Charlery reversed his initial not guilty plea after his lawyer Wendel Alexander examined the crime scene surveillance footage. Although the video did not show the killing itself, the audio recording captured heated exchanges between Charlery and Benjamin, followed by the sound of the fatal gunshot.

Benjamin, a mother of one, died from a gunshot wound to the head at her Golden Grove residence on November 22, 2021. Charlery, who was in a relationship with the victim, was arrested and charged soon after the incident occurred.

Charlery remains in custody at His Majesty Prison while awaiting his sentencing hearing.

Sentencing is now set for October 17 and was adjourned pending a probation officer’s report.
