Two Individuals Hospitalized Following Separate Suicide Attempts

Police are investigating two separate suicide attempts reported on Saturday, October 4, 2025, which left both individuals hospitalized in stable condition.

The first incident occurred in the Freetown area around 9:30 a.m., when a woman reportedly ingested several prescription tablets in what police believe was an attempt to take her own life.

According to investigators, the woman had been experiencing emotional distress linked to relationship difficulties. She was found unresponsive at her home and transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) by ambulance. Medical officials confirmed that she was treated and admitted for observation.

A few hours later, around 3:45 p.m., police responded to another suspected suicide attempt in the Ottos area. A man reportedly contacted authorities himself after consuming a quantity of pills and alcohol. Officers and emergency medical personnel were dispatched, and he was taken to SLBMC for treatment. He was said to be alert and cooperative when interviewed by investigators.

Both incidents are under active investigation by the police, who are reminding members of the public that help is available for anyone struggling with emotional or mental distress.

Anyone in need of support is encouraged to contact the Mental Health Centre at 462-5465 or reach out to a trusted healthcare professional or counselor.
