The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a vital step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.
In a statement issued by Minister of Foreign Affairs, E.P Chet Greene, the government commended the diplomatic efforts led by the United States, with support from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, which helped to secure the ceasefire agreement.
Minister Greene noted that Antigua and Barbuda joins the United Nations Secretary-General and the governments of France, China, and Saudi Arabia in urging all parties to ensure that the cessation of hostilities leads to a sustainable and lasting peace, as well as unhindered humanitarian access for those in need.
He emphasized that this “hard-won pause” must pave the way for full humanitarian relief, the restoration of essential services, and the release of all hostages and detainees. The minister also reiterated Antigua and Barbuda’s call for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza, as a necessary foundation for long-term stability.
Greene further urged all parties to seize this opportunity to establish a credible political path toward a just and comprehensive peace, grounded in the two-state solution, one that ensures an independent and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace and security.
He reaffirmed that Antigua and Barbuda remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts consistent with international humanitarian law, and to working with global partners to advance peace, justice, and stability in the Middle East.

Finally, some good news. Innocent lives been suffering for too long may this ceasefire actually last.
A small nation showing solidarity for peace proud of Antigua and Barbuda’s stance.
As someone with diplomatic experience myself, Antigua and Barbuda’s statement reinforces its consistent foreign policy stance as a champion of peace, sovereignty, and international law.
To be frank, by aligning with the UN Secretary-General, and major powers like China, France, and Saudi Arabia, the government positions itself as a responsible global citizen a small island state speaking with moral clarity on complex geopolitical matters.
Minister Chet Greene’s tone mirrors Antigua’s non-aligned diplomacy, supportive of humanitarian principles without taking an extreme partisan side. It also reaffirms Antigua’s support for a two-state solution, long advocated within CARICOM and the UN.
Now I’m really thinking Trump was on to something when he said he should be awarded the Noble Peace prize.
Finally after two years some hope and semi normalcy in sight.
Diplomacy does infact prevail
Comment *Regionally, the statement aligns Antigua and Barbuda with other CARICOM nations that have repeatedly called for de-escalation and respect for international humanitarian law.
CARICOM leaders have often condemned the loss of civilian life on both sides while pressing for a political solution rooted in justice for Palestinians and security for Israel.
Antigua’s position strengthens the Caribbean’s collective diplomatic voice, showing that small states can contribute meaningfully to major peace discussions.
Time for peace but when you trouble Israel you get dusted
