High Court Grants Bail Request from Jailed Police Officer

A police officer jailed for firing his gun in public has now been given bail by the High Court following a hearing on Monday.

Karim Warner is currently serving a year behind bars after being found guilty of the offense. His attorney, Andrew Okola, has appealed the conviction and sentence handed down by Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel.

Warner sought his release on bail through the High Court last week but the judge moved to address the matter again on Monday where he granted bail.

The 37-year-old was convicted over a December 2023 incident in Willikies involving a leased vehicle dispute that turned violent.

According to court testimony, Warner confronted two people in a Toyota Mark X—a car he owned but had rented out. When they wouldn’t hand over the vehicle, he used his Lexus to block them in and demanded they get out.

After one occupant suggested going to the police station, Warner rejected the idea, grabbed his gun, and opened fire on the car—damaging the trunk, rear door, and tire.

Warner insisted he only fired to protect his property and disputed claims about the number of shots. But the magistrate found 12 rounds excessive and convicted him.

His appeal will now be heard by the Court of Appeal.

Gun or no gun, he should’ve known better. You can’t use force like that and expect people to take you serious as an officer. That’s not how the law works.

This is why the public keeps losing trust in some officers. Too many feel untouchable because of the badge. He’s lucky to even get bail after that kind of behavior.

Boy, if it was an ordinary man from Willikies that fire off them shots, he woulda still deh jail waiting! Police must be held to the same standard, no special treatment!

At the end of the day, firing a gun in public is serious business… especially from someone trained to uphold the law. I hope this whole situation is handled fairly and that he learns from it.

Maybe the appeal has some merit, but it still doesn’t sit right. Officers should be held to higher standards, not lighter ones.

Haha. I laughed cause he’s a ex-police. What that speaks for Khaleel’s killer?

If you’re protecting your property, why reject the idea of going to the police station? Hmph. Now he’s granted bail. Have any other person granted bail for shooting with intent? Oh JUDGE

Some of us belch hot bubbles when it’s not ours involved. The court system is there for all. Higher the proper attorneys and you will be able to work the system to your benefit.
