Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle walks through St. John’s Market
Members of the United Progressive Party (UPP), led by Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, conducted a walkthrough of the St. John’s Public Market on Saturday morning, engaging with vendors, farmers, and residents about ongoing challenges in the agricultural and food supply sectors.
Describing the initiative as “a successful and meaningful outreach,” Pringle told Antigua.News that maintaining direct contact with citizens remains a top priority for his team.
“It was a good morning always good to stay in touch with the people and listen to their concerns,” he said. “A number of persons are disgusted by the scandals and the way in which the country’s name has been dragged through the mud. People want accountability and leadership that listens.”

The Opposition Leader said the visit was not only about political engagement but also about understanding the daily realities of small farmers, vendors, and market operators who play a vital role in ensuring national food security.
“Vendors and small farmers are essential to our survival. They form the backbone of local food production, yet they face major challenges — from rising costs to poor support systems. We believe that improving their conditions is critical to building a more sustainable and secure food future,” Pringle explained.
During the walkthrough, the UPP delegation interacted with stall owners, sampled and purchased locally grown produce, and discussed the need for stronger policy frameworks to support agricultural producers and sellers.
Several vendors reportedly expressed frustration with the current Central Marketing Corporation (CMC), saying it could do far more to assist farmers with marketing and distribution.

“People are concerned about the operations of the CMC,” Pringle noted. “They believe it should play a greater role in helping farmers sell their produce, find markets, and improve visibility for local crops.”
The Opposition Leader said the UPP will continue to host similar community engagements across the island, emphasizing dialogue and practical policy discussions aimed at strengthening agriculture, supporting vendors, and restoring public confidence in government operations.

Hon. Jamal Pringle please, Pringle is for when you talking to your friends and company.
I never see a headline read Browne …or Greene( Chet) ….Benjamin ( the AG) . Even the runaway from customs get better respect.
Put some respect on the man’s name and his position.
But thank you for posting though and there is an event happening today as well.
They bought anything or they left with their hands swinging
A public relations stunt that will not help him retain the leadership of the UPP! It is unfortunate when these less than genuine activities take place they get news coverage! We need to know about his personal involvement in Public Works! My question is direct! What did he get?
If this visit wasn’t politically motivated, then let’s see him return next week without the cameras and the entourage
It’s refreshing to see leaders walking among the people that’s how you understand what’s really happening on the ground
Finally, someone acknowledging the struggles of small farmers and market people. They’re the ones keeping local food production alive
Another stroll through the market season! Hope this one comes with a basket of real solutions
Farmers and vendors have been suffering for too long. The government should be doing more to support them instead of focusing only on big projects
Good to see the Opposition out in the community instead of just talking in Parliament. The vendors need real attention and action
t’s easy to criticize the government, but leadership means bringing ideas, not just complaints. Let’s hear some real proposals for agriculture
I hope this isn’t just a photo-op. The market needs better infrastructure, cleaner conditions, and more support from both sides
Pringle dark chocolate. Cross the floor. Leave the blue bugs alone Dem nah like you
